Stretch film is also called winding film and heat shrink film. High-quality stretch film should be characterized by high transparency, high longitudinal elongation, a high yield point, high transverse tear strength, and good puncture performance. It is mainly used for the sale and transportation of various products, and its main role is to stabilize, cover, and protect the products, so the stretch film must have high puncture resistance, good shrinkage, and certain shrinkage stress. During the stretching process, the film must not produce holes. Since stretch film is often applied outdoors, it is necessary to add UV anti-ultraviolet agents.
Stretch film is most commonly used in the following forms:
1. Sealed Packaging
This type of packaging is similar to shrink-wrap packaging, where the film is wrapped around the pallet to enclose the pallet fully, and then two heat grippers heat seal the two ends of the film together. This is the earliest form of use of wrap around cinema, and more forms of packaging have been developed.
2. Full-Width Packaging
This kind of packaging requires the film width to be wide enough to cover the pallet; the shape of the pallet is regular, so the use of it is suitable for film thicknesses of 17-35 μm.
3. Hand wrapping
This kind of packing is the simplest one in the wrap-around film packing; the film is loaded on a rack or held by hand and rotated by the pallet or the film is rotated around the pallet. It is mainly used for re-packing after the wrapped pallet is broken and ordinary pallet packaging. This kind of packing is slow and the thickness of suitable film is 15-20μm.
4. Stretch film wrapping machine packaging
This is one of the most widespread forms of mechanical packaging. By the pallet rotation or film rotation around the pallet, the film is fixed on the support and can be moved up and down. This packaging capacity is large, about 15 to 18 trays per hour. The suitable film thickness is about 15 to 25 μm.
5. Horizontal mechanical packaging
Different from other packaging, the film around the items is suitable for long goods packaging, such as carpets, plates, fiberboard, and shaped materials;
6. Packing of paper tube
This is one of the latest uses of wrap-around film, which is better than the old-fashioned paper tube packing with wrap-around film. The suitable film thickness is 30-120μm;
7. Packing of small articles
This is the newest form of packaging of wrap-around film, which can reduce the consumption of materials as well as the storage space of pallets. In foreign countries, this kind of packaging was first introduced in 1984, and only one year later, many such packages appeared in the market, and this form of packaging has great potential. Suitable for film thickness of 15-30μm;
8. Packaging for Tubes and Cables
This is an example of the application of wrap-around film in a special field. The packaging equipment is installed at the end of the production line, and the fully automatic stretch film can both replace the tape to bind the material and act as a protection. The applicable thickness is 15-30μm.
